| When a damaged XPID unit comes back to us for repair, we expect to find a cracked screen or a worn battery. What we don’t expect to find are games. Yet that’s exactly what our support team has seen and it’s a reminder that security doesn’t stop at the door.
While our industry focuses on physical intrusions, cyber intrusions are just as important to prevent. The recent breach involving Instructure’s Canvas LMS is a clear reminder of how damaging a cyberattack can be. Closer to home, we know of several instances where customers’ data was held ransom by bad actors.
Minimizing your attack surface is one of the most effective ways to protect against data breaches. For systems like XPressEntry, we suggest securing the devices themselves. While our software is end-to-end penetration tested and certified, controlling what else runs on the devices matters. Do you know how your devices are being used in the field? A malicious app on an approved device could create real security risks.
That’s why we certify Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions for XPressEntry. With this newsletter, we’re announcing certification of SOTI. SOTI’s MDM is a strong fit for enterprise deployments. We also support Microsoft Intune as another full-featured option, and for basic functionality, XPressEntry Secure Device Management (SDM) can be enabled specifically for Telaeris XPID devices. All of these help control device use, protect enterprise systems, and safeguard employee information.
| In the age we live in, Benjamin Franklin’s maxim from 1735 is as important as ever, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Of course, if you have questions about the best way to secure your devices, our engineers are always available to talk.
And if you want to speak to our engineers in person, you will have your chance this November at our Telaeris Partner Summit. Learn about the latest updates from our team, get trained on XPressEntry, and network with other companies that are successfully using our handheld solutions. |

How do you account for 600 employees across 10 floors during an emergency evacuation?
A Houston-based energy company needed a faster, more reliable way to manage emergency mustering in a shared high-rise office building. Working with Walker Engineering, Inc., XPressEntry was integrated with the company’s existing Software House C•CURE 9000 access control system to create a real-time, grab-and-go mustering solution for every floor.
The result is a structured, repeatable evacuation process that helps designated personnel quickly account for employees, identify missing individuals, operate offline if needed, and sync automatically when connectivity is restored.

New Certification – Device Management with SOTI MobiControl
XPID210 devices are now certified with SOTI’s MDM platform, MobiControl. Enterprise security teams using MobiControl can now confidently deploy and maintain their XPressEntry handheld readers with ease.
Don’t have an MDM? Telaeris customers can utilize XPressEntry’s Secure Device Management (SDM) to set up, manage, lock down, and update their devices.
