It’s funny how often customers ask if we deploy badges and mobile credentials with our XPressEntry System. They are surprised to hear that we almost never sell them. That’s because most installs of XPressEntry piggyback on an existing physical access control system – and usually one of the 40+ integrations that we already support. Our job is not to pick the credential – it’s to read whatever the customer already has, or whatever they are planning to move to.

image7.png

Usually, this is easy since our handhelds support 100+ credential technologies. But we are starting to see a slow transition in what our customers ask for. In the past, they would have a single card format, or in some cases support both a legacy Prox badge and a more secure HF style badge. Now, roughly 1 out of 10 customers ask us to verify that our readers are future proofed for whatever mobile credential they might choose. Actual deployments of a credential on phones runs far lower, perhaps 1 in 50. The majority of these mobile credential projects have been with HID’s Mobile Access stack, but we’ve also deployed Farpointe, Safetrust, and Nedap. We’re currently building in support for another 15 planned proprietary mobile credentials that live in vendor apps as well as Google Wallet and Apple Wallet.

What we don’t see are companies abandoning their badges for mobile. In our experience, mobile credentials are always an additional option to open the doors or validate at the handheld. And that makes sense. No one is going to hang their phone around their neck as an ID, but it sure is convenient if you can use what is already in your hand to open the door in front of you.

At our Telaeris Partner Summit, November 4 to 6, we will be showing many of the different mobile credentials our handhelds support, including the upcoming Aliro open mobile credential standard. We would love to host you and your team here in San Diego.

Telaeris just extended XPressEntry into Honeywell’s LenelS2 Elements™ cloud platform, bringing handheld badge verification, biometric checks, and emergency mustering to sites where fixed readers can’t reach. The announcement is already picking up coverage from Security Systems News, Security Journal Americas, SecurityInformed, CB Herald, and SourceSecurity. Read the full story here.

Manual headcounts and radio check-ins are slow and error-prone during an emergency at a large industrial site. A chemical manufacturing plant in Tennessee solved this by deploying 17 XPressEntry handheld readers into its existing Genetec Security Center and Synergis™ environment, no new badges, no separate enrollment. Because the readers are handheld, security teams can move them to muster points, gates, or work zones as conditions change, giving real-time visibility into who’s accounted for.

Handheld readers on guard posts, remote facilities, and critical infrastructure sites need to be locked down from the moment they’re powered on, without relying on the cloud or user accounts. XPressEntry’s Secure Device Management (SDM) does exactly that: devices are provisioned in minutes via QR code, bound to a specific site, then locked down at the OS level, kiosk mode, disabled USB and camera access, remote wipe and reboot, all managed from your on-prem server, even offline.
