Introduction
An equipment manufacturer in Poland needed to add emergency mustering to its existing Nedap AEOS access control system without replacing infrastructure, changing credentials, or adding unnecessary complexity.
XPressEntry integrates with Nedap AEOS to provide real-time personnel accountability during emergency evacuations. Rather than replace existing infrastructure, issue a second set of credentials, or install fixed readers requiring additional infrastructure, the manufacturer deployed one (1) XPressEntry handheld reader to add emergency mustering to its existing AEOS environment.
Challenges
On a secure manufacturing site, knowing exactly who is on the premises and who has reached designated assembly areas or muster points during an emergency evacuation is a core safety requirement. Manual headcounts and paper rosters can be slow and unreliable, particularly as the number of employees, contractors, and visitors on site increases. They become even harder to rely on as personnel move between production areas and controlled zones throughout the site.
The facility also operates under strict security requirements. Any new personnel accountability capability needed to fit within the existing physical access control system (PACS), avoid creating a second credential database, and add as little hardware and complexity as possible.
Credentials added another requirement. Personnel at the site use MIFARE DESFire cards and Nedap Mobile Credentials, so the solution needed to support both without requiring anyone to carry or enroll a new badge.
Solution
The equipment manufacturer deployed one (1) XPressEntry handheld reader integrated with Nedap AEOS. XPressEntry maintains the latest credential and access control information from the AEOS database, allowing personnel to continue using the badges and mobile credentials they already have.
The handheld reader supports both MIFARE DESFire cards and Nedap Mobile Credentials, allowing both credential types in use at the site to be validated at a single muster point.
During a drill or emergency evacuation, personnel scan their credentials at the designated muster point. Each scan updates the XPressEntry Server / Web Console, providing real-time personnel accountability and giving authorized teams a live view of who has been accounted for at the muster point and who remains unaccounted for.
Because the reader is a handheld device, it is not tied to a fixed location. Safety personnel can relocate muster points if conditions change or a designated area becomes unsafe and immediately begin accounting for personnel at the new location.
Operational Benefits
By deploying XPressEntry alongside Nedap AEOS, the manufacturer gained:
- Faster personnel accountability during drills and emergency evacuations
- Real-time visibility into accounted-for and unaccounted-for personnel
- Emergency mustering integrated with the existing Nedap AEOS access control system
- Support for both MIFARE DESFire cards and Nedap Mobile Credentials
- Continued use of credentials already managed in Nedap AEOS
- No second enrollment process or separate credential database
- Reduced dependence on manual headcounts and paper rosters
- A portable reader that can move to different muster points as conditions change
- A small deployment footprint suited to a high-security site
Conclusion
By integrating XPressEntry with its existing Nedap AEOS environment, the manufacturer protected their access control investment and added real-time emergency accountability without replacing established infrastructure or issuing new credentials.
A single handheld reader gives safety and security teams a practical emergency mustering solution for accounting for personnel quickly during drills and emergencies while leaving the site’s existing access control system and credential workflow unchanged.
