When Telaeris started 21 years ago, our focus was building custom solutions for customers to solve real problems. This is evident from the tagline on our original logo “Innovative Solutions and Rapid Development”.

Our Original Company Logo – Not Much Has Changed!

The first major company we landed as a client was the British Petroleum refinery in Carson, where we were hired by the turnaround manager, Don Francis. Managing 500 temporary contractors for three-month long refinery shutdown projects, he found every day he could shorten the project would reduce his costs by more than a million dollars. A one day savings could be achieved by shaving just 10 minutes off every worker’s day, so Don kept a keen eye out for these small, but broad wins.
After some significant successes deploying RFID solutions with Telaeris, Don started to introduce us to other area managers to help them. Safety. Security. Purchasing. Inventory. Processes. Material Specification. Finance. Our partnership with BP gave Telaeris a masterclass in industrial problem-solving. It also triggered our evolution from an on-demand engineering firm into a product company. As we have grown our product portfolio, we continue to listen closely to our customers to understand where we can best provide value.

This fall, we are hosting our 2026 Telaeris Summit right here in San Diego, CA. The main event takes place on Thursday, November 5, bookended by a welcome social the night before and a round of golf at Torrey Pines the day after.
While we’ve already announced XPressEntry Guard Tour, we have a few additional surprises in store. We’ll be demonstrating many new capabilities for our handheld badge validation and emergency mustering solution. We would love to have you join us.
It is the perfect opportunity to:
- See it first: Get an exclusive look at our latest features in action.
- Get hands-on: Master XPressEntry’s full ecosystem with expert training.
- Dive deep: Explore our latest access control integrations.
- Connect: Meet the Telaeris team and other security professionals

As we have developed the new capabilities we are showcasing, I can still hear Don Francis in my mind saying, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could….” Now for many of his wish-list ideas, we confidently say, “Yes we can.”
Be well,
– Dave

Telaeris has extensive experience deploying handheld badge readers in environments with special requirements. XPressEntry XPID devices are known for their wide range of capabilities, including offline functionality, rugged design, GPS, and more. But this blog covers a more specialized handheld reader stripped of its communication capabilities for use in high-security facilities. These mobile reader devices, referred to as No-Communication or No-Comm devices, are designed specifically for offline access control.
