Issue #
- One or more of the following symptoms may be occurring:
- Handheld begins server synchronization successfully.
- User and configuration data download progresses normally.
- During or near completion, the handheld:
- Exits the XPressEntry application
- Returns to the Reader Setup or Home Screen
- Issue may occur on some handhelds while others function normally.
- No clear or actionable errors appear in server logs.
- A location permission prompt may briefly appear on the handheld before failure.
Root Cause #
A conflict between the XPressEntry location tracking configuration on the server and the handheld device’s permission handling can cause the application to terminate unexpectedly during synchronization.
Resolution #
Disable Enable Location Tracking in the XPressEntry Server Application, then reconnect the affected handheld(s).
Step-by-Step Resolution Instructions #
Step 1: Access the XPressEntry Server Application #

Log in to the XPressEntry Server Application using administrative credentials.
Step 2: Navigate to Location Settings #

Select Tools from the top navigation menu.

Click Settings.

Navigate to Location and Battery.
Step 3: Disable Location Tracking #

Locate the Location section.

Find the setting labeled Enable Location Tracking.

Uncheck the box for:

Default profile

Any scanner/reader profiles in use (if applicable)

(Note: Ensure this setting is disabled for all relevant profiles.)
Step 4: Save Changes #

Click Save for each modified profile.

Confirm that all changes have been successfully saved.
Step 5: Reconnect the Handheld Device #

On the handheld:

Open the XPressEntry application.

Navigate to Reader Setup.

Select Legacy Login (or applicable login method).

Re-enter server connection details if required.

Reconnect the handheld to the server.

Allow synchronization to complete.
