MTBF and MTTR

We’ve been asked what the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and the MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) of the AT870N type devices are. Our raw estimates are below:

  • MTBF 121653 hours
  • MTTR 14 hours

This was calculated from the knowledge of 24,000 units were sold to customers worldwide (US, Korea, Japan, Europe, Middle East) and there was a repair ratio of about 0.3%

For one of Telaeris’ customers, working in a particularly difficult construction environment, we have the following metrics for a year:

  • Mean Time Between Failures = (Total up time) / (number of breakdowns) = 15 units * 365 days / 1 breakdown = 5307 hours
  • Mean Time To Repair = (Total down time) / (number of breakdowns) = 7 days / 1 breakdown = 168 hours (7 days)

The MTTR is much higher in this case since internal hardware was often broken. Since our hardware is mostly manufactured in Korea, shipping time takes up the majority of the time for this customer. To alleviate this, we are now stocking many of the parts locally and have been trained to be able to repair most breaks locally.
